Creation of a New Composition for Cello and Piano for an International Consortium of Performers

I propose to create a composition for cello and piano drawing on Holocaust ghetto, partisan, and concentration camp songs. It will utilize my research in U.S., European, and Israeli archives, and will be incorporated into both my international lectures and Music and the Holocaust course. Through a merging of my research and creative activities, the larger goal is to engender greater public awareness and tolerance. Each performer in a consortium of cellists in the Czech Republic, Germany, Israel, and seven states across the U.S. will present a performance, and I will give accompanying lectures on the composition's genesis and purpose.
