Engaging Schools, Families and Community in Critical Dialogue: Photovoice and Teacher Education

In this project, KSU faculty and an Osborne High School (OHS) teacher will facilitate a project with OHS students and KSU pre-service teacher candidates in order to support engagement with families and the community. This project will give all collaborative partners an opportunity to engage in critical community dialogue though the use of photovoice (Wang & Burris, 1997), a documentary photography methodology that utilizes Freirian problem-posing and participatory research methods. Short-term goals include training and supporting KSU teacher candidates in photovoice methodology, professional learning, and public sharing of students photographs and narratives. Long-term goals include scholarly dissemination in the form of presentations and peer-reviewed publications.
