Marvin Smith Tenured Faculty Enhancement Leave Program

I propose conducting a mixed methods study of the teaching practices of my former teacher education students who have been prepared to implement Cognitively Guided Instruction (CGI) in elementary mathematics. I have collaborated on the development of specialized support materials intended to facilitate the rapid implementation of CGI by beginning and experienced teachers, and I have used these materials in my elementary mathematics teacher education courses. The study is designed to evaluate the impact of these materials on the developing teaching practices of the participants. Proposed outcomes include a journal article manuscript, conference presentations, and course and teaching enhancements.
