Are you currently conducting or interested in pursuing research in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL)? Were you aware that all SoTL research, regardless of discipline, requires approval by Kennesaw's Institutional Review Board (IRB) if you intend to present or publish findings that include data you obtained from students?

Dr. Ginny Zhan (Chair of KSU's Institutional Review Board) and Dr. Tom Pusateri (CETL Associate Director) will lead a discussion on the ethical issues faculty should consider when conducting SoTL research, such as obtaining informed consent from students, avoiding conflicts in your dual role as a teacher and researcher, maintaining confidentiality of student information. They will also suggest strategies for submitting a successful IRB application for SoTL research.

Are you interested in exploring the connections between the thinking and emotions in your teaching and the implications of these connections for student learning? If so, we invite you to join KSU's Cognitive-Affective Learning Interest Group. KSU is one of six participating institutions in the Cognitive-Affective Learning (CAL) theme as part of the Carnegie Academy for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning's Institutional Leadership Program.

The KSU CAL group meets at least once each year to share ideas and plan projects related to cognitive-affective learning in higher education. To learn more about this group, visit our Web site at http://www.kennesaw.edu/cetl/resources/cal/index.html
