Since 2011, I have collaborated with colleagues from Purdue and Clemson Universities to investigate the content of mathematics methods courses. We conducted a survey of activities mathematics methods instructors use with prospective teachers and a literature review of studies about methods activities. I will lead the team in a case study to determine how instructors choose, implement, and evaluate their activities. The overarching goal is to mobilize the field of mathematics education toward a more scholarly practice of methods through scholarly inquiry. I will write an NSF grant to fund a conference to synergize research and move the field forward.
