You are invited to a retreat for early career full-time faculty. This day-long event will feature workshops on writing narratives for multilevel promotion and tenure reviews, navigating the grant process, reducing stress, and teaching for learning at KSU. The retreat includes an off-campus luncheon at a nearby restaurant.

The agenda is created by early career faculty colleagues who are members of the 2018-2019 Quick Starters Early Faculty Learning Community, and will be announced in early Spring 2019.

Space is limited and registration will open in early spring 2019.

This workshop is designed for full-time faculty not on the tenure track who will be submitting their portfolios in Fall for a promotion review. While all the rules, schedules, forms and procedures can be found in the Faculty Affairs website, preparing all the relevant documentation is a momentous endeavor that can generate questions and perplexities. Furthermore, the narrative is a genre few faculty are practiced in. We will review requirements and timelines, as well as share common pitfalls and suggestions for crafting an effective portfolio.

Interested in exploring the idea of teaching in a learning community? As a high-impact practice, learning communities benefit students in multiple ways, but also benefit the faculty who teach in them by providing a framework for cross-disciplinary connections. In this workshop, we will consider how you might be able to turn an area of interest into a learning community. In addition, Dr. Vaught will demonstrate how he, in collaboration with colleagues, has effectively designed multiple learning communities for maximum student impact.

Stephen D. Brookfield's book, The Skillful Teacher, discusses considerations about teaching online. These include setting expectations, grading, and interactivity. In this workshop, we will explore Brookfield's literature and support it with discussions about technologies used to enhance online courses. Dr. Jeanne Bohannon will share her expertise on incorporating technology into her f2f classes.
