This book is the result of a fifteen-year study of nearly one hundred college teachers from a variety of disciplines and universities. It is an informal account of what was learned in that study, organized into answers to questions such as: How is excellence in teaching defined? How do they prepare to teach? What do they expect of their students? How do they conduct class?
