How do you approach the topic of changing majors with a student that is not succeeding in his/her major? How do you tell a fourth year student that he/she will not be graduating this year? How do you provide other career options to students that donÕt have the grades or test scores for graduate school? This workshop is designed to discuss how to initiate difficult conversations with students that reflect appreciative advising and compassionate mentoring.
Learning Outcomes: Upon completion of the workshop, participants will:
¥ Be familiar with the practices for approaching difficult advising topics with students
¥ Learn appreciate advising strategies that can be used to broach difficult advising topics
¥ Learn strategies for engaging and re-energizing unmotivated or apathetic students
