Perhaps the most important role of a department chair is to foster the growth and development of faculty members in the department. Serving as a mentor for faculty in the department means ensuring the professional development of the faculty members and assignment of faculty responsibilities (e.g., course schedules, service responsibilities, student advising, etc.) in ways that help faculty to manage their time efficiently while ensuring effective running of the department. This workshop will provide strategies to department chairs for these mentoring and human resource management roles.
