Hutchings, Huber and Ciccone (2012) argue that engaging in the scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL) can improve teaching and learning, support faculty development, contribute to assessment initiatives, and provide evidence of teaching effectiveness. Participants will receive a copy of this book and will meet to discuss its implications for supporting SoTL at KSU.

The SoTL Retreat is designed for full-time faculty members interested in obtaining professional development funding and consulting to support their work in the scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL, inquiry concerning student learning and the teaching practices that affect student learning). Faculty members submit proposals to CETL for consideration, which may include SoTL projects at any stage of development, from conceptualization to execution to write-up for publication.. CETL selects participants based on the quality of the proposal, which include clear articulation of the SoTL project, current progress on the project, and goals for participation in the SoTL Retreat.
